Unable to Activate eSIM (iOS only)
If you see this error about 10 seconds after you start activation, it is very likely that the eSIM you are trying to install/activate is currently installed on a device (either on your current device or your previous device)
Look for your Roamless eSIM on your current device under Device Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service) > SIMs section
β(Please see article on How to find your Roamless eSIM on your device)If you see the Roamless eSIM there, you don't have to install it again
You can turn it on, select it for data usage and start using it right away
β
If you cannot find the Roamless eSIM on your current device, it is very likely that it is still installed on your previous device
If you have access to your previous device, please delete the Roamless eSIM from your older device first.
Then open the Roamless app on your current device > Data tab > Install eSIM > this will install the Roamless eSIM on your current device
β
If you don't have access to your old device, and you cannot delete the Roamless eSIM anymore, you can ask the Support Team for a new eSIM.
If you see this error about 20-30 minutes after you start activation, it means one of two things:
Either your device has "airplane mode" turned on
Or you are in a location with no Roamless coverage
If airplane mode is turned on, please turn it off > restart your device
Your eSIM will complete activation after a few minutes and will be ready for use
If you are in a location with no Roamless coverage (either no signal, or the country/region is out of coverage), your eSIM will complete activation once you are in a location where you have coverage on a Roamless network
This code is no longer valid / This code has expired / This code is already used
This error definitely means that the eSIM is currently installed on a device (current device or older device) and cannot be installed again.
The same troubleshooting steps for "Unable to activate eSIM" error apply here:
If the eSIM is already installed on the current device, you do not need to install it again
If the eSIM is on a previous device, you can delete it from the old device first > install it on the new device
If the old device is not available anymore, please reach out to the Support Team to get a new eSIM assigned to your Roamless account
eSIM stuck in "Activating..." (iOS only)
While this is not an error, if you see this note for your Roamless eSIM for around 20 minutes (under Device Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service) > SIMs) it means either airplane mode is on and preventing the eSIM from connecting to a network, or you are in a location with no Roamless coverage at the moment.
eSIM not supported / eSIM not compatible (iOS only)
This error very likely means that your device is carrier-locked and needs to get unlocked by your carrier before you can install the Roamless eSIM (or any SIM/eSIM that's not issued by your carrier). Please contact your carrier to get your device unlocked (if your contract allows for it).
Please do NOT initiate Roamless eSIM installation/activation from under Device Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Service)
Instead, please:
Open your Roamless app > go to Data tab > click on Install eSIM
You can 1-click activate your eSIM OR
Get your QR code to scan with your camera to activate OR
Get your manual activation codes
Technical Error (Android only)
This is an error that only occurs on Android devices, in rare cases when the device fails to successfully download the Roamless eSIM
Possible Solution:
If you see the Roamless eSIM under SIM Manager, please click into it and see if you can delete it
Check your connectivity and if possible change your WiFi connection (or hotspot to a different device)
Make sure any VPN services are disabled on your device
Try to install the Roamless eSIM again
If you do not see the Roamless eSIM under SIM Manager, and you try again, you may get a "This code has expired / This code is already used" error, indicating that the eSIM was downloaded but is stuck in an error state and is not usable.
