My device does not have eSIM

When you try to activate your eSIM but your device is not eSIM-capable

Updated this week

If your device does not have an eSIM slot, you will not be able to install and use your Roamless eSIM for data connectivity.

Please Note:

  • Most devices that are built for Mainland China or Hong Kong markets do not have eSIM slots and cannot use eSIMs

  • Instead, these devices come with two physical SIM slots for connectivity

How to Determine if Your Device Supports eSIM Technology

The easiest way to determine if your device supports eSIMs is to check under your device settings > SIMs section.

If you see an option that says "Add eSIM", your device should support eSIMs.

For iOS devices:

  • Go to your Device Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > scroll down

  • If you see the "Add eSIM" option, your device is eSIM-capable

For Android smartphones and tablets:

  • Go to your Device Settings > Network & Internet (or Connections) > SIM Manager

  • If you see the "Add eSIM" option, your device is eSIM-capable

For portable WiFi Routers and tablets:

  • Please check on the device manufacturers website for the device's specs to see if the device supports eSIMs

Using eSIM Adapters to Make Your Device eSIM Compatible

Even if your device does not natively support eSIM technology, you can buy an adapter (a physical SIM card) that allows you to use eSIMs

Some of the most common eSIM Adapter providers are:

Quick Overview of How Physical eSIM Adapters Work

  1. You buy a physical SIM card from one of these providers

  2. You install the Roamless eSIM onto the adapter SIM (using a QR code or a manual activation code)

  3. You configure the Roamless eSIM on the adapter's mobile app (or web portal)

  4. You place the adapter SIM into your device & select it for data connectivity

In short, the Roamless eSIM gets installed on the adapter SIM, and then used like any other SIM card on your device.
