Does My Device Support eSIM?

Device requirements to use the Roamless eSIM on your device

Updated this week

Roamless eSIM works on any eSIM compatible device, as long as the device is not carrier-locked (i.e. under contract).

You can use the Roamless eSIM on:

  • Smart Phones (iOS and Android)

  • Tablets (iOS, Android, Windows)

  • Portable WiFi Routers. (Android-based)

  • Smart Watches (Note: Apple Watch is currently not supported)

  • eSIM Adapters (e.g., 9esim, esim.me, EIOTClub, etc.)

How to Determine if Your Device Supports eSIMs

The easiest way to determine if your device supports eSIMs is to check under your device settings > SIMs section.

If you see an option that says "Add eSIM", your device should support eSIMs.

For iOS devices:

  • Go to your Device Settings > Cellular/Mobile > scroll down

  • If you see the "Add eSIM" option, your device is eSIM-capable

For Android smartphones and tablets:

  • Go to your Device Settings > Network & Internet (or Connections) > SIM Manager

  • If you see the "Add eSIM" option, your device is eSIM-capable

For portable WiFi Routers and tablets:

  • Please check on the device manufacturers website for the device's specs to see if the device supports eSIMs

Carrier-Locked Devices

Please note that your device may support eSIM technology but if it is carrier-locked (e.g., under contract), it will not allow for the installation of the Roamless eSIM (or any other eSIM) until the carrier-lock is removed by your provider.

Please see this article to determine if your device is carrier-locked.

Other Limitations

In rare cases, you can have an eSIM-capable device with no "carrier lock" (SIM lock) but when you try to activate your Roamless eSIM, you can still get the error: "This eSIM not supported by this iPhone"

If you are seeing this error, your primary provider may have restricted the use of other SIM cards or eSIMs on your device and may have allowed only their own SIM to be used.

We recommend you reach out to your primary provider to see if the restriction can be lifted.
