Is My Device Carrier-Locked?

How to determine if your device is carrier-locked

Updated over a week ago

Please note that your device may support eSIM technology but if it is carrier-locked (e.g., under contract), it will not allow for the activation of the Roamless eSIM (or any other eSIM) until the carrier-lock is removed by your provider.

How to check carrier-lock on iOS Devices

  1. Go to Device Settings > General > About > scroll down > Carrier Lock

  2. If you see "SIM Locked", it means your device is carrier-locked

Please note: If you try to install your Roamless eSIM on a carrier-locked iOS device, you will get an error that says "eSIM not Supported" "This eSIM is not compatible with this device".

How to check carrier-lock on Android Devices

  1. Go to Device Settings > scroll down and click About (or About Phone)

  2. Look for Status information or SIM status > Click to expand

  3. Scroll to the Carrier lock or SIM card status section.

    • If it mentions a specific carrier (e.g., "Locked to Verizon") or shows restrictions, it's carrier locked

    • If it says "No SIM restrictions" or "SIM unlocked", your phone is carrier unlocked

Please note: For carrier-locked Android devices, you may still be able to install the eSIM, but the device will prevent it from connecting to the network and give you an error
