eSIM and Device Settings for Android

How to configure your device settings to start using your Roamless eSIM

Updated over a week ago

1. Select Roamless eSIM for Mobile Data

  1. Go to Device Settings > Connections > SIM Manager

  2. Select the Roamless eSIM for Data

Note: Depending on device manufacturer, the settings/menus could be slightly different. If you do not see separate options to select for Calls, SMS and Data, and can only select "Primary SIM", please select Roamless eSIM for "Primary" when you want to use it for data.

2. Turn Data Roaming ON for Roamless eSIM

  1. Go to Device Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks

  2. Turn ON 'Data Roaming' for your device
(Roamless eSIM is a global eSIM, so it needs data roaming to be turned ON)

Note: If your Android device (e.g., Pixel devices) allows separate data roaming settings for your different SIMs/eSIMs, please turn on data roaming only for the Roamless eSIM

3. Check APN Settings

APN gets auto-configured upon eSIM installation, however if you don't have data connectivity with your eSIM (even with the above settings in place), it's recommended to check APNs and if needed manually adding/configuring them.

  1. Go to Device Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names

  2. Click on Roamless eSIM at the bottom of the screen

  3. If the page that comes up is empty, click on + on the right corner > enter the below details into their respective fields

  4. Once done, click ... (three dots) on the upper right corner > Save

Note: Only enter the details below, you do not need to edit/change anything else

    Name: Roamless

    APN: roamless

    APN type: default,supl

    APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6

    APN roaming protocol: IPv4

    Bearer: Unspecified

When you're done using your Roamless eSIM and/or are back home

  1. Go to Device Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks

  2. Turn OFF 'Data Roaming'

  3. Go to Device Settings -> Connections -> SIM Manager

  4. Select your regular SIM for mobile data again

Alternatively: You can turn off the Roamless eSIM on your device until you need it again.

Reminders:

  • Your device may have slightly different settings screens compared to those in the instructions above. However, the general principle is always the same. You select your Roamless eSIM for data connectivity on your device (and turn on data roaming for the Roamless eSIM) when you need it. And you select your regular SIM when you're back home.

  • Roamless eSIM is data-only. So if you have your Calls and Messages set to your regular SIM, your operator may still charge you (for calls & SMS abroad) if you make/take calls on your regular phone number, or send SMS while you're traveling abroad. Receiving SMS is always free.

  • If you want to avoid roaming charges on calls and SMS as well, you can turn OFF your regular SIM when traveling abroad. But please note: with your Primary SIM off, you won't be able to receive calls or SMS.
