Roamless Numbers

Details on Roamless Numbers and How Roamless Numbers Work

Updated today

Roamless Numbers Overview

Every Roamless user can subscribe to get a Roamless “phone number” from inside the Roamless app and use it as their 2nd phone number.

  • Roamless Numbers can be used:

    • As CallerID when placing calls from inside the Roamless app

    • To receive calls from inside the Roamless app

    • To send and receive SMS messages from inside the Roamless app

  • Initially, Roamless Numbers are offered with 3 country codes:

    • Canada (+1)

    • United Kingdom (+44)

    • Australia (+61)

    • Other countries' numbers will be made available over the coming months

  • Currently, number porting (carrying your own number to Roamless) is not offered

Roamless Numbers work INDEPENDENT of the Roamless eSIM

  • Roamless eSIM is data only and has no default phone number assigned to it

  • Roamless Number is a stand-alone offering, that works even on devices with no eSIM or eSIM capabilities, only requiring the latest version of the Roamless app to function

  • Reminder: Do not manually assign any phone number to the Roamless eSIM under device settings

Users CAN get have more than one Roamless number subscription

  • Users can subscribe to more than one Roamless Number if they wish

  • There is no KYC (know-your-customer / verification) required for the initial set of countries for Roamless Numbers

Roamless Number (country code) has no bearing on where the user is located

  • Any user from ANY country in the world can get any Roamless Number, regardless of where they are located, and use it as they wish

Roamless Numbers use VOIP (voice over IP) and NEED DATA CONNECTIVITY to function

  • If a user has any data connectivity (WiFi, regular SIM, Roamless eSIM, hotspot), they CAN use their Roamless Numbers to place calls, receive calls, and send/receive SMS from inside the Roamless app

  • If a user has no data connectivity (e.g., only seeing regular signal bars with no 3G/4G/5G icon), Roamless Numbers cannot function

    • This is critical — since Roamless Numbers use VOIP, an active internet connection is mandatory for all in-app calls to function (i.e. to make/receive calls, to send/receive SMS)

  • In other words:

    • If a user has no data connectivity, and someone calls their Roamless Number, the caller will hear a “user not available / user unreachable” message

    • If a user has no data connectivity, and someone sends their Roamless Number a an SMS message, the SMS will get delivered later, once the user has data connectivity again

  • Reminder: Roamless Numbers and in-app calls have NO DEPENDENCY on the Roamless eSIM itself

Roamless Numbers work from inside the Roamless app and need the Roamless app to work

  • When a call comes in to the Roamless Number (i.e., incoming call), the Roamless app will “ring” (similar to Whatsapp, Facetime, etc.) and the call will be picked up via the Roamless app

    • Roamless Numbers need the Roamless app to be installed & logged-in to work

    • Roamless Numbers DO NOT work with default phone apps on users' smart phones

    • If the user has deleted the Roamless app from their device, they WILL NOT be able to receive calls on their Roamless Number

  • Similarly, if an SMS (short message service) text is sent to a Roamless Number, it will be received from inside the Roamless app

    • Roamless Numbers DO NOT work with device’s native text/message apps

    • If the user has deleted the Roamless app from their device, they WILL NOT be able to receive text messages on their Roamless Number (until they install the app again and log back in)

In other words: Everything relating to Roamless Numbers, Roamless Calls and Roamless Messaging require the Roamless app to be installed on the user’s device and the user to be logged-in

Roamless Numbers CAN BE used to register on other apps and for two-factor authentication (2FA) and one-time passcode (OTP) messages

  • In other words, users CAN use their Roamless Number to register on an app like Whatsapp or Telegram and receive their OTP (inside the Roamless app)

Roamless Numbers are a subscription service

  • Users can subscribe to a Roamless Number for:

    • 1-month or for 12-months

      • Note: There are no 3-6-9 month etc. Numbers subscriptions available

    • In-app calls and messaging (with or without Roamless Numbers) always use Roamless Credits per minute of talk-time, or per SMS sent

      • Note: There are no call-plans/bundles or SMS plans/bundles

    • Receiving calls and receiving SMS with Roamless Numbers is free

  • Subscriptions auto-renew by default (every month, or every 12-months depending on subscription type), unless manually cancelled by user

  • Subscriptions work with manual credit card entry as well as via ApplePay/GooglePay

    • Payment method gets saved on Stripe (and never on Roamless systems) for auto-renewal payments

  • Users CAN change payment method for their subscription in the app

    • Users CAN enter a different credit card and then delete the old card as they wish in the app

    • Users CANNOT remove their “saved payment method” from Stripe if the have an active subscription

    • Users need to first cancel the subscription before being able to “remove” the saved payment method from their account

Roamless Numbers are used as CallerID

  • When a user has an active Roamless Number, they CAN select this number as their callerID (to show to the recepient as the ‘number calling them’) when they’re making in-app calls

    • User can also select “anonymous” to use the static callerID

    • User can also select their Verified Number for callerID if they have verified their number -- See Verified Number section below

  • If a user is using their Roamless Number selected as callerID to place calls

    • They will pay “local rates” if they’re calling the same country as their Roamless Number

      • For example: User has a Canada number as their Roamless Number (e.g., +1 431 555 55 55) and they are calling another Canada number (e.g., +1 431 222 22 22), they will get charged “local” Canada-to-Canada calling rates, not international rates

      • If they’re calling another country, international call rates apply

      • User sees the rate per min as usual in the Roamless app > Call Tab > Keypad > Rates

Verified Numbers (i.e. Verify Your Current/Existing Phone Number)

  • Roamless gives users the option to Verify their existing phone number (i.e., the regular phone number they have with their local SIM card)

    • This is different than Roamless Numbers (which is offered as a paid-subscription)

  • For example E.g., user's regular US number is +1 212 555 55 55

    • The user “verifies” this number in the Roamless app

    • This gets linked to their Roamless account

  • Number Verification is free of charge

    • One user can only have ONE verified number for a Roamless account at any given time

    • Users CAN remove their current verified number and add a different one if they wish

Note: Only users who have made a purchase before (i.e. credits, data plan, or numbers) can verify their regular phone number in their Roamless app. Users who have not made any purchases before cannot verify their regular mobile number.

When a user has a Verified Number, they can use it:

  1. As CallerID — and make calls using the Roamless in-app calling feature

    • The recepient will see the verified number as the incoming call (e.g., +1 212 555 55 55)

  2. To send SMS — users CAN send SMS from the Roamless app using their Verified Number

    1. When the user sends an SMS from inside Roamless app with their Verified Number “selected” as the active number, the recipient will see the SMS coming from +1 212 555 55 55

  3. Use their Verified Number for Roamless-to-Roamless calls & messages

    1. R2R calls and messages are FREE OF CHARGE

    2. See more about Roamless-to-Roamless Calls and Messaging in the next section

IMPORTANT NOTE 1: A Verified Number CANNOT receive calls or SMS inside the Roamless app

  • Meaning, if someone calls the user on +1 212 555 55 55, the call will NOT go to the Roamless app; it will go to the regular default phone app

    • User's REGULAR PHONE APP will ring > and if user is traveling + their regular SIM is turned on and they answer > They will get call-roaming charges like always

    • Similarly, if they get an SMS on their regular phone number, the SMS arrives in their regular messages app (NOT the Roamless App message module)

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: If a user deletes their Roamless app, their call history as well as their message history will be lost and cannot be recovered

  • For the time being, we do not offer a mechanism to archive or recover call and messaging history

Roamless-to-Roamless Calls and Messaging (R2R)

  • If a user has a Roamless Number or a Verified Number, and they want to call or message another Roamless user with a Roamless Number or Verified Number, they will be able to do so FOR FREE

  • Both users have a registered phone number with Roamless (either a purchased Roamless Number or a Verified Number) — and they can communicate for free from inside the Roamless app via R2R Calls and Messaging

  • Roamless-to-Roamless (R2R) calls and messages are always free

  • Roamless-to-Roamless (R2R) calls and messages are end-to-end encrypted

Roamless Number Refunds

  • We do not offer refunds on Roamless Numbers

  • Users can “cancel” their subscription from inside the app whenever they choose (and keep using their Number until the expiration of their subscription)

    • Unlike eSIM and data (where device limitations can qualify for refunds), Roamless Numbers are instantly “in use” upon subscription activation, so refunds are not offered

Future Expansion and Plans

  • There are plans to offer Roamless Numbers from different country codes in the future

  • Paying for Roamless subscriptions using Roamless Credits is currently not supported but will be added in the future

    • For now, users need to use their credit card or Apple Pay or Google Pay to pay for their subscription

    • When the feature is added users will be able to use their Roamless Credits to pay for their subscriptions as well
