How does Roamless manage data usage between Unlimited Plans, Data Plans, Roamless Credits and rewards?

Roamless eSIM automatically manages your mobile data usage, ensuring a seamless experience no matter where you are. Below, we outline the essentials of how data usage is prioritized, how balances interact, and what you should know about automatic switching behaviors.

Introduction to Unlimited Plans, Data Plans and Roamless Credits

Roamless uses three main types of data on your account, plus rewards:

  • Unlimited Plans: unlimited data for a set number of days in a specific country or region. You get 3 GB of full-speed data per day; after that you continue at a reduced speed (1 Mbps) until the next daily reset, at no extra cost. Validity starts with your first KB of usage.

  • Data Plans (previously known as FIX): Country-specific data plans that offer a set amount of data valid for a specific destination. Once activated by using data, they last for 30 days.

  • Roamless Credits: A pay-as-you-go option that works in over 200 destinations and provides data at competitive rates. Roamless Credits never expire and allow flexible usage.

Hierarchy of Data Usage Priority

When multiple balances exist on your Roamless eSIM, data usage follows this automatic priority order to ensure the best value:

  1. Rewards Data - promotional or bonus credits valid in participating locations. They are consumed first if eligible.

  2. Unlimited Plans - when you have an active Unlimited Plan valid for your destination, it is used after rewards. A country plan is used before a regional plan, and only one Unlimited Plan runs at a time.

  3. Data Plans - when present and valid for the current destination, these are consumed after any Unlimited Plan.

  4. Roamless Credits - as a fallback option, Roamless Credits are used when no rewards, Unlimited Plan or Data Plan is active.

If none of these options are available, mobile data usage will require purchase of additional credits or data plans.

An Unlimited Plan takes priority over a Data Plan even if that Data Plan is already in use. Buying an Unlimited Plan for the same destination switches your data to it immediately.

Reward Data and Priority

Reward data is always used first when valid in your location. It requires no manual action and seamlessly integrates into the data usage flow without requiring the user to enable it manually.

This applies to Unlimited Plans too: if you earn a reward while an Unlimited Plan is active, the reward is used first - whether your Unlimited Plan is at full speed or at the reduced speed. Once the reward is used up, your Unlimited Plan takes over again.

Unlimited Plans and the Daily Fair Usage Limit

  • An Unlimited Plan gives you 3 GB of full-speed data each day. This is the Fair Usage Limit, and it renews every day of your plan.

  • After 3 GB, your speed drops to 1 Mbps for the rest of that day. You are not disconnected, there is no total daily cap, and there is no extra charge.

  • If you want full speed back before the daily reset, you can temporarily switch to an available Data Plan or to your Roamless Credits for the rest of that day.

  • That choice does not carry over - at the next daily reset you are back on Unlimited at full speed.

Full details are in Unlimited Plans.

Switching Between Unlimited Plans, Data Plans and Roamless Credits

  • When your Data Plan expires or is fully consumed, the system automatically switches to Roamless Credits, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity.

  • You don't have to manually change or select anything.

  • If you have an Unlimited Plan, it is used before your Data Plans and Roamless Credits. When it expires, Roamless moves on to the next available source automatically.

  • Reaching the 3 GB daily Fair Usage Limit on an Unlimited Plan does not switch you automatically. You stay on Unlimited at a reduced speed, and you can choose to switch to a Data Plan or Roamless Credits for the rest of that day.

Pay-As-You-Go Data Activation

  • Roamless Credits automatically activate when there is no active Unlimited Plan, Data Plan or Reward data available for your current location.

  • Travelers across multiple countries often benefit from this feature as Roamless Credits provide consistent coverage in over 200 destinations.

Considerations for Multi-Country Usage

For travelers making multiple stops:

  • Roamless Credits are ideal for short stays as they work seamlessly across all destinations without setup.

  • Data Plans are better suited for longer trips in a specific destination, providing more data at potentially lower costs for that location.

  • Unlimited Plans are best suited for daily heavy data usage, on short or longer stays, when you would rather not worry about running out of data at all.

Summary

Roamless provides a streamlined approach to managing data usage by automatically prioritizing rewards, Unlimited Plans, Data Plans, and Roamless Credits based on availability and location. Leveraging these features ensures uninterrupted connectivity and cost-effective usage.
