While the Roamless eSIM itself is 'data-only' (meaning you don't get a designated phone number for the eSIM itself), the Roamless app comes equipped with an international voice-call feature that you can use to call 200+ destinations using your Roamless account balance.
This feature allows you to dial actual phone numbers with rates starting from $0.01/minute of talk time. (This is particularly useful when Whatsapp or other means are not available to call the hotel, or your airline for example).
The 'in-app calls' feature works as long as you have some form of data connectivity (i.e. if your device is connected to the Internet) and pay-as-you-go credits:
You can make in-app calls when your Roamless eSIM is being used mobile data
You can make in-app calls when you're connected to any WiFi
You can make in-app calls even at your home country when you're using your local SIM card for mobile data
Essentially it's an extremely flexible international calling function embedded right into the Roamless app. The best part is, you do not even have to have your eSIM activated or enabled; all you need is some form of data connectivity (WiFi, regular SIM, hotspot, etc) and some Roamless pay-as-you-go (Flex) credits; you're good to go!
To start making calls using Roamless In-App Calling:
Make sure you have added at least $5.00 of pay-as-you-go credits to your account
Make sure you have data connectivity on your device (Roamless eSIM or WiFi or hotspot or your regular SIM)
Open your Roamless app & click on the calls tab
Dial the number want to call in the dial-pad including +country code
(e.g. +1 212 555 55 55)
That's it. Your pay-as-you-go balance will be consumed per minute of talk time.
You can see the per minute rates/prices inside the Roamless app under Destinations > Country Details, as well as on the app keypad page when you dial the number, right before you make you call.
Please note:
The Roamless eSIM itself is data-only. So you don't get a phone number with it.
You need to have pay-as-you-go (Flex) credits in your account to use Roamless in-app calls. Data plans are for data-only; you cannot place calls if you only have a data-plan in your account.
The in-app call feature currently does not offer a "caller ID" where you can be called back yet... but this is about to change.
Very soon, we will introduce our "Virtual Numbers" feature, where you'll be able to subscribe and get your own phone number and use it as callerID and to receive calls and SMS from inside the Roamless app. Stay tuned.
